It was in 1838 that Mr. Jeunet developed the first industrial machine to produce night lights and founded his company. The Jeunet company grew rapidly throughout the 19th century and launched its products under the brand Les Veilleuses Françaises. It is now, in France, the only company to produce and market oil candles, and sells millions of them every year.
The night light is a small vegetable-oil lamp, composed of a float and a cotton wick. A very economical alternative to a classic candle, it gives off light and creates a warm atmosphere. It is also used for prayer or meditation. Les Veilleuses Françaises is the world leader in this market and has hundreds of thousands of customers in France and around the world: private individuals, restaurateurs, event organizers, and others…
FOUNDED IN 1838, OUR COMPANY PERPETUATES AN AGE-OLD TRADITION AND KNOW-HOW.
Les Veilleuses Françaises offers a vast range of products that all benefit from exclusive know-how and respect the highest quality standards.
All our oil candles are manufactured using a certified process that guarantees their quality. The raw materials (cotton, wax, cork, metal, etc.) all meet very strict specifications and the entire manufacturing cycle (waxing, cutting and sealing of wicks, making the floats, etc.) is codified and controlled to guarantee they burn continuously for at least 24 hours, in normal service conditions.
The wicks of our lights are crimped or set in a metal base that is placed on a cork float. This float is very stable and is designed to keep the wick partly immersed in the oil to ensure it burns properly. Les Veilleuses Françaises floats are protected from the flame by a thin sheet of metal crimped onto the float.
The night lights are much more economical than traditional candles and can burn, continuously, for 24 hours.
Les Veilleuses Françaises are not toxic to health and are 100% recyclable.
They can withstand wind better than traditional candles and generate a higher flame.
Founded in 1838, our company perpetuates a French tradition and know-how.

BUY ONLINELES VEILLEUSES FRANÇAISES IS THE WORLD LEADER IN THIS MARKET AND HAS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS THE WORLD OVER.
Select a wide-necked container, preferable glass, in which the float can move freely (see our lanterns).
Pour some vegetable oil into the container (peanut, sunflower, rapeseed/canola oil, etc.). Do not use used or rancid oil. Note that the oil candle consumes about 100 ml of oil per 24 hours of operation.
To make the float easier to handle, keep the stem vertical and place a new wick in the centre of the float. Place the float with its wick on the oil. (Voir photo)
Wait a few seconds until the oil has completely soaked the wick (you can also put a few drops of oil on the wick), then light it. Do not touch the float with the lighter to avoid unbalancing it. The wick can now keep burning for at least 24 hours...
To extinguish a wick that is burning itself up, simply blow on it.
If you want to relight a wick that had been burning, first clean it by removing the black carbonized residue that forms on the wick and dry the float before replacing it.
If you are using a big or deep container, you can fill it first with water to avoid having to pour in too much oil. The oil quickly loses its properties once it is in contact with the light, which reduces the lifetime of the oil candle.
The water also serves as an alarm: as soon as it comes in contact with the wick, the wick start to sputter, alerting the user to the need to add oil.
The night lights are perfectly safe. If accidentally overturned, they extinguish automatically for lack of fuel. There is no risk of the oil itself igniting.
